Comprehensive Ophthalmology
Dr. Trent joined the medical staff of Shasta Eye Medical Group in January of 2003. Our group was pleased that we were able to attract Dr. Trent away from his successful private practice of over ten years in Camden, South Carolina, to provide excellent medical and surgical care to our community. He came with a reputation as an excellent clinician and a gifted surgeon and has made a fine addition to our team of doctors at Shasta Eye Medical Group. He is available for new medical and surgical patient appointments.
Dr. Trent’s professional interests encompass all areas of ophthalmology. In addition to the full spectrum of family eye care that includes exams for glasses and contact lenses, Dr. Trent provides comprehensive medical and surgical services to his patients. He has maintained clinical and surgical excellence in cataract and refractive surgery, pediatric ophthalmology, glaucoma, corneal diseases, and retinal diseases, including macular degeneration and laser treatments for diabetic eye disease.
Dr. Trent is a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, where he grew up and attended the University of Tennessee. He pledged at Sigma Chi fraternity and held several leadership and training positions within his fraternity. He received the Fredrick T. Bonham Academic Scholarship and was inducted into Outstanding Young Men of America as well ad Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi , and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Societies. He graduated from medical school at the University of Tennessee in Memphis and then completed four years of Ophthalmology training at the University of South Carolina. During his training he placed his emphasis on comprehensive ophthalmology and anterior segment surgery. Dr. Trent was honored with the position of Chief Resident in Ophthalmology in his final year.
Certified by the American Board of ophthalmology in 1992, Dr. Trent successfully completed recertification in 2002. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. In South Carolina, Dr. Trent was chairman of the Credentials Committee of Kershaw County Medical Center from 1994 to 2002.
