As a cornea and anterior segment specialist, Dr. Silverstein’s medical interests include cataract, uveitis, blepharitis, dry eye, herpetic eye disease, and ocular surface tumors. His surgical interests include small incision cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, and laser vision correction. Advanced fellowship training at UCSF has given Dr. Silverstein special skills to competently treat especially complex and challenging cases that are beyond the scope of practice of many other ophthalmologists.

Dr. Silverstein strives to be a patient advocate and to provide the highest quality care with warmth, compassion, and respect. In addition to caring for patients with challenging eye diseases, Dr. Silverstein is happy to see patients who need exams for glasses or contact lenses. He particularly enjoys performing LASIK surgery and is pleased to offer this service to the Redding community. Dr. Silverstein is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

The son of a plastic surgeon, Dr. Silverstein was raised in many states. He also traveled extensively for his education and medical training. Dr. Silverstein attended Harvard College in Cambridge, receiving his Bachelor of Arts with Honors in 1986. Next, he moved to New York City and received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1991. While at Columbia, he was inducted into the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his internship in internal medicine and general surgery at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and then moved to Miami for his ophthalmology residency training at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of the University of Miami. For subspecialty training, Dr. Silverstein moved back to San Francisco and completed a two year fellowship in cornea, refractive surgery, external disease, and uveitis at the Francis I. Proctor Foundation at UC San Francisco. During his training, Dr. Silverstein co-authored a significant number of articles to medical and scientific journals. After fellowship, Dr. Silverstein joined the medical staff at Shasta Eye Medical Group.

Dr. Silverstein is a gifted pianist. He and his wife Anne have two sons and a daughter. In their spare time, they raise lambs, ducks, and chickens as well as harvest a variety of organic fruits and vegetables from their orchard and garden. They have happily adapted to country living on the outskirts of Redding.
